Micky Got Robbed by the Prop 8 Commie Hollywood Homos!

I watched the Awards for the first time in a decade in hopes to see Mickey and Ledger win. I was shocked (as was Penn) when Mickey lost. Mickey won 20 best actor awards from foreign and independent sources and lost only in the SAG and the Oscar--tell you something? Penn's performance will be forgotten, Mickey's will not be. His is CLASSIC. Penn knew who really won.

BTW, I will not watch the charade ever again.

I will never watch the Oscars again either. Penn said it best, "Commies and homos," and do not call me homophobic, because it has nothing to do with acting, but the award had everything to do with politics. Everything. Penn, knew, it, and we know it. He knew who the best performance was going in, but they were scared to give it to our best actor alive, guy, Mr. Rourke. They were scared too. Seriously. That might take away for their political agenda. If anyone every should have won an Oscar for a gay role, it was Heath Ledger on Brokeback Mountain, his performance was seamless, and perfect, but he was an outsider too, but whatever. My opinion is not based on being homophobic, it is based on seeing how the machine works here in Hollyweird, and the gays are strong in the Academy, which is why Mickey won everywhere else, SAGS, Independent Spirit Awards, and every other acting award. Penn won for the role, not for the performance, and that is a sad thing. Do you think Mickey knew they would not give it to him??

I have seen parts of "Milk", and Sean Penn is undeniably good in the film. But... and I say this without the slightest bit of prejudice against homosexuals... given the political/social climate in California right now, I think Penn's win may have been more about the gay/lesbian marriage issue than his performance in the movie. I have to wonder if there were people who voted for him because he played a gay man/activist, and not really because they believed him to have given the most deserving performance.

The previous poster was correct... Mickey's performance will not be forgotten. Penn may have won, but Mickey's getting all the press.

Just happened upon this blog and the Uniquely Rourke site today, while googling some post-Oscar Mickey news. I'm sure I'll be a regular visitor, as I am a HUGE Mickey Rourke lover!

Yes Mickey was robbed. I'm bummed about it but I knew that industry would make it political. How can he win a Golden Globe and a BAFTA and NOT the Oscar??? Go figure? I guess artists outside of the US love him more or are just smarter. Next movie that Mickey is nominated for - He'll win. He has too. He's by far one of the best actors out there.

Mickey did get robbed! I read several sites that indicated the columnists felt the same. I was pleased that Penn mentioned Mickey in his acceptance speech though and I agree with budo that Penn knew who really won.

By the way, LOVED the black and white jacket and JEANS!! His face is starting to "settle in" after his weight loss, or whatever, and he is looking just great!

Yes, I believe Mickey did believe he would not win the award. It has been said he was pessimistic on account of several "bad" (but true) remarks in the past regarding the Academy.

In reality, those remarks turned out quite true. SHAM that it was last night!
